“I took these photos at the Old Air Studios that overlooked Oxford Circus in London. Mark Knopfler was doing the final mix of the album and was using the whole top floor studio complex. On my part it was a hard to decission to use this polaroid technique that I had discovered on this project as it was such an unpredictable technique and, as a professional photographer, I cannot allow unpredictability on a shoot. I took a leap of faith though and the photos were taken on a wooden Gandolfi 10x8 view camera and I solarised the 10x8 polaroids to get the effect. Although there was very little to see, as I needed to copy the faint negative side of the polaroid onto Ectachrome film to see anything, Mark Knopfler got the idea and with very few words he chose Frame #1 for the al...
